Read MoreWe are headed out of town for Thanksgiving. We are going down to the beach in our own RV, where we found a spot that is isolated and safe for a few days. We really need to decompress from being a family of 4 stuck in the house for months. This is a much needed trip for us, as we are just barely hanging on through online school and work hassles.
We had planned to pick up an HEB prepared Thanksgiving meal because our little RV doesn’t have much of a kitchen, but the meal is important to our family. I went online and discovered that even though its still advertised, I couldn’t order the meal for Thanksgiving. I called the HEB general help line at 6:30 PM on Sunday night (they shut down the line at 7) and asked them why the meal is still advertised online at all the stores, but I cant order it.
The HEB person on the phone told me that the meals sell out, they only make so many….I held the line while she then checked all the HEBs within an hour of the beach, and told me that she was sorry, they had all sold out of the meals. She didn’t say it, but it was my fault, I waited too long. I am sure she heard the disappointment in my voice as I thanked her, hung up, and prepared to tell my wife that I waited too long, and missed the holiday meal.
At 6:59, a minute before closing on a Sunday night, HEB calls back and said that she had reached out to the Deli Manager at the HEB nearest the beach, and she agreed to make us the Thanksgiving Meal, even though they were technically sold out. I called the store down near the beach, spoke with the Deli Manager, and my meal was booked.
Wow! What great people HEB has. They cared enough to put in the extra effort to help solve a problem, when they could have easily just let it go.

Read MoreHi, I’m looking for a recommendation on a Local Bike Shop (LBS) who has excellent techs capable of a complete strip and rebuild of my Fox Talas RL Fork for my old 2007 Stumpjumper. It started to bleed on me several years back and I ended up just getting a new bike rather than mess with the fork, in part bc of some incorrect feedback from a LBS but mostly bc I got the approval from the wife to go splurge on an upgrade.
I previously had a bad experience with West End bikes on this as they were not willing to look at the issue but were highly motivated to sell me a new bike. Basically told me “its old, its probably unfixable, they don’t even sell new forks for that bike anymore, let me show you this new S-Works instead”.
I know there is a limited selection of 1-1/8″ straight tube forks but none, now that’s BS (esp 3 years ago). I did buy a new bike, just not from them.
I ended up holding onto the bike bc I had just upgraded its to a 1×11, put new brakes on, and just generally loved this bike. All it has done is essentially hang from my garage for the last 3 years. Now that my son is getting older, I’d like to get it fixed so he can grow into it.
Any recommendations on a LBS who is up for a fox front fork shock tear down and rebuild?
I’m also looking at mailing it out, but would much rather take it to a local shop and support our economy. So I’m open to a rec on that as well.
Thanks yall, I really appreciate it!
