Y’all Might Not Like This…

Why do the Texans keep interviewing these odd candidates? Let me explain what I think is happening here.

First of all, I know some of you believe they already have a candidate, but that doesn't mean what I'm about to say doesn't still apply.

I think if you look at what Nick said in the presser, think about what we know about Nick, Easterby and how the Texans operate as an org, and you look at who they've been interviewing, you can see where this is going. They are looking to operate as a collective coaching unit. Nick is looking for someone with the exact same vision, good communication, a strong leader and someone who can operate and manage things between Nick, Easterby and the roster. Someone who will let him be sort of an assistant or co-coach.

This I predict many of you won't like because it's BoB or Jerry Jones-like behavior. On the bright side, Nick actually has experience with both coaching and GM duties but I still think it's something to keep an eye on.

With that being said, they aren't looking for an Xs and Os guy specifically. They are looking for a CEO style coach like Culley but with better football knowledge, game management and someone's who's more aligned in their views. This is why McCown is getting an interview. Because he fits their mold. He knows football, can coach QBs, knows how offenses run but is also likely to fit the other criteria.

I'm not saying I like this approach or even dislike it, I'm just putting it out there so you can be prepared for when we get an inexperienced coach who works closely with Nick and co. I'll go into it with an open and positive mind but it just means we really have to get coaching and roster construction right for this to work.

TLDR- Texans are looking for another CEO type coach, not an Xs and Os guy. They value leadership over experience and want a guy who's going to be on the same page as them ideologically and someone who will value Nick's input as a behind the scenes coach.
