Yainer Diaz has to get the bulk of the DH ABs when Yordan is in LF.

If we aren't resting any of the guys and when Yordan is in LF, Diaz has to be DH (unless he's catching).

Their treatment of him is baffling. I can understand not being comfortable with him catching more than once, I don't agree but I get it.

People defend Dusty at times for playing the long game over the course of the season but then defend his decision to not give Diaz more ABs as "He's not doing well" (which is not true, he's been unlucky).

Surely there is nothing more "playing the long game" than giving your top 100 prospects whose known for their bat more ABs to get going? Even if it costs us a game here and there.

Especially in a lineup lacking power.

To the fans who want to say "he looks lost" or "he's just playing poorly", this is exactly why there are metrics such as expected Weighted On Base Average (xwOBA and wOBA).

For the people who simply dismiss analytics because of "weird acronyms" please read the definitions of it first before uninformed judgments.

TL;DR summary of wOBA (Weighted On Base Average):

Weighted On-Base Average combines all the different aspects of hitting into one metric, weighting each of them in proportion to their actual run value. While batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage fall short in accuracy and scope, wOBA measures and captures offensive value more accurately and comprehensively.

Basically, it's a more accurate version of OPS. And the expected version (xwOBA) uses Statcast metrics to judge how hard their contact has been and what wOBA that contact is based on other occurrences. We can then determine if that player is getting lucky or unlucky.

Yainer Diaz's current wOBA is .241 which is "awful". BUT, this is why expected metrics are valuable. His expected metrics show his xwOBA is .320 which is average for a starter. Meaning he's been making a lot of good contact, but goes right into defenders.

Kyle Tucker had the same issue in 2018 where a lot of vocal people in this fanbase wrote him off when his expected metrics showed he was unlucky.

TL;DR: Yainer has been very unlucky, and regardless he needs more playing time to adjust to major league pitching.
