would you live in downtown?

early 20s F, I really like the idea of living in a building/area with history and a nice view. I had my eye on a few places close to that one stretch of main-I’m trying to buy, not rent. I like the idea of centrality and walkability (in theory). but as a girl, I just am not sure if I’d feel safe taking advantage of said walkability/public transport with the homeless/mentally ill population often around downtown streets. I don’t know if I’m letting the aesthetic blind me, and I should just live in montrose or something like that and save downtown living for a different city in the future.. lol. I know there’s discussion about downtown fairly frequently so I apologize if this is kind of redundant!
