Working at the Space Center – what are good neighborhoods?

My boyfriend and I are moving to Houston from Atlanta. He got a job near the space center. He really wants to move to Katy because we've heard good things. However, I'm worried he'll get sick of the commute quickly. We're 26 and 31. No kids and a senior dog so I'd prefer somewhere I can safely walk him. Not looking for an apartment, and prefer something with two bedrooms. What neighborhoods would you recommend?
