Work of Amateur Burglar or Skilled Burglar?

Work of Amateur Burglar or Skilled Burglar?

I just moved into a new place this weekend and my apartment got broken into sometime after 4:30 pm yesterday.

I just got the keys to my new place this past Friday and the last couple days I've been moving things into my apartment. On Friday, my place was fine. I had moved in some things and left my place and my apartment was fine and it wasn't until this morning (Sunday) that I noticed some things were off. Yesterday I was from my place dropping off things from around 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. I was trying to move things as quick as I could to my apartment as I saw it was going storm. After unloading the last of my things I turned off all the lights in my apartment, closed the door, and locked my apartment and I went to stay with my Mother since she was watching my daughter for the day while I was moving and decided to crash at her place for the night since I was exhausted.

The following morning I came to drop off the last bit of my stuff to my apartment and I was dropping off the last bit of my things to my apartment when I saw the front gate to my place was left open. I have a gate in the front entrance of place that surrounds the front door. I brushed it off as maybe a strong gust of wind had blew it open, it was storming the night before. My Dad and Brother were helping me unload the last bit of furniture and things and when I entered my bedroom I noticed that two luggages containing my clothes were missing. I also noticed that my closet door was left open when I remember closing it before I left the day before. I was inspecting my room and the only other things I noticed was missing was a laptop bag, HP laptop in a box, and my drone with the drone bag missing. I had a bunch of my daughters things and other misc things in my room but it doesn't seem like any of my other things were touched or taken. I kinda expected them to take the electronics since that was the only thing of value in my apartment at the time. A bit upset they took my two luggages with all my clothes since that was all the clothes I had.

Upon walking through my apartment more I saw all the cabinets in my bathroom were left open as if someone had gone through them and my shower curtain had moved when I left it closed.

I immediately called the police to report the burglary and they dispatched a police officer to my place. As I was standing outside making the call I noticed the crack in the window (Photos above) and the screen to my apartment was pulled off my apartment. It appears that whoever broke in only broke a small portion of the window to unlatch the window and had snuck in through the window by the door to get in and out of my apartment. Upon closer inspection near my window I also found a wrapper to a blunt wrap packaging and the burglars had left a half drank slushie cup and an empty bottle of OFF bug spray on my front patio that wasn't there the day before.

Aside from the slightly cracked window it doesn't seem like anything else was damaged. When the police office showed up he didn't really do much for the situation. He made a police report and inspected the window and that was it.

There's a million of thoughts that are running through my head right now. I'm exteremly scared for the safety of me and my daughter. I haven't stayed there overnight yet but now I'm terrified of another break in. I know that break ins in Houston are more common, but does anyone know if the method of breaking in and how the burglar was careful to just break a portion of the glass where the window latch is… Is that the work of an amateur burglar or because how careful they were breaking the glass, is that someone who has a bit more experience breaking into homes?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
