Wind insurance in Galveston County? Only TWIA?
We are moving to League City and I’m confused because we’re getting conflicting information on available options for wind coverage (Galveston county).
A local insurance broker (let’s call them Broker 1) is telling me that the only option for wind insurance is TWIA, they said that the other companies are “non-admitted” and therefore not backed up and regulated by the state. This broker has a good reputation and positive reviews.
Two other brokers (Brokers 2 and 3) in the area are telling me that there are a few other options for the wind insurance, and have provided me different quotes. I know that the options we have are probably not great anyway as many companies are pulling out, but can someone please explain why one broker might be saying that the ONLY option for wind insurance is TWIA? What do you all have for wind coverage in League City?
House is in flood zone x.
For example, Broker 2 sent me a quote through Allied Trust. Broker 1 says that company isn’t “admitted” and they only work with admitted companies. Brokers 2 says the company is admitted and there are a couple others they quote with as well.
I tried to contact Texas Department of Insurance and they were very unhelpful.
