Why no lightning rods?

Moved here over a year ago, really enjoying the city. Everything but the thunderstorms. The amount of lightning we get around here is scary. Started to think it s time to put up lightning rods, i think it s worth the couple thousand i d spend on the system. So it all makes sense to me, but when i look around in my neighborhood, I could not find a single house with lightning protection. Why is that? Something I don’t know, just new to this city and will get used to it, or i m right and everyone else is wrong.
