Why is this Self Storage place on Hempstead so cheap compared to others?
Hey folks,
I currently rent a 10×20 drive-up storage unit from Public Storage at N Loop and Ella, and keep a vehicle in it. It costs $165/mo and that's on the low end of storage costs for that size unit in the area.
Now, I see this Extra Space Storage facility show up on Hempstead, just a mile farther away, renting the same size spaces for about $60/mo.

Something feels 'off' for it to be that low. It looks like the location was under different ownership in 2024, was damaged during the hurricane, and then Extra Space bought it and renovated it a bit.
But still, is the area horrible for break-ins? Does it flood? Is it a bait-and-switch to get you in, and then they skyrocket the rates? What's the catch?
