Why is the Houstonian so Expensive?

I've heard The Houstonian is THE sort of classic Luxury Hotel in Houston so I'd like to check it out.

But I'm paying for it myself–not on a company dime. I have no discounts.

Price quoted for 2 nights is 1143.00– Monday night through Wednesday Morning in March.

I called asking "what justifies the price?" And they said you have access to the gym and pool. and there are woods. Didn't exactly close the deal in my mind.

So — and i'm not being snarky — can you guys justify the price for me? I want to stay there I just need something to "hang my hat on" so I don't feel like I'm overpaying.
