Why is sugarland so monotone?

Or am I just crazy? I have lived down near Galveston my entire life. Drive to houston often but never had a reason to go through sugarland until today. It just felt different driving through. Everything seemed less full of color? Fast food signs that are usually colorful were grey/white. Is there a reason for this? Am I simply insane and there’s nothing different?
