Why is Our Local Media So Weak Regarding Turner?
One week ago Mayor Turner was accused of awarding a project to a former law partner. The housing director was immediately fired.
NPR was the only outlet that stayed on the story.
The one project alone would cost $15 million for 88 affordable units, while projects recommended by city housing officials would provide 362 affordable units at a similar cost, he said.
Now a week later Turner is promising new information next week. The Chronicle had one opinion piece asking for more information from the mayor and our electronic media reported Tom McCasland's (Housing Director) firing but stopped there until Turner decided to go on attack. The mayor was accused by the Housing Director of helping a friend at the expense of the city and the silence is deafening.
