Why is Mayor Whitmire breaking the one part of Metro that didn’t need fixing?

The Houston Chronicle editorial board calls out Mayor Whitmire for his "unnecessary, arbitrary and capricious decision" to end red light prioritization for Metro light rail downtown without a single hearing or public announcement or even looping in City Council. Here's a key quote:

Contact your elected representatives at City Hall and let them know that, at the least, you expect an explanation behind the boondoggle. The transportation advocacy group LINK Houston is collecting signatures for a petition demanding a stop to the delay of Red Line riders.

City Council members should demand answers at its Tuesday meeting and pass an ordinance mandating transparency from the mayor’s office on road projects.
