Why Houston Parks & Rec Kickball League Is the Best Deal in Town

Just wanted to share a kickball league in Houston that’s seriously underrated — it’s run by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and it’s done extremely well.

You can choose between two league nights: Monday or Wednesday. Games are played at Memorial Park – Jim McConn Memorial Softball Field, which are hands down the best fields I’ve ever played kickball on in Houston.

Each game has two dedicated referees, and they’re consistently solid. The league uses a “tiny ball” with no minimum bunt distance, which makes for fast-paced, exciting defense and offense. Trust me if you've ever watched an HSSC big ball bunt slowly roll to an imaginary line you know what I'm talking about.

The format is a 5-week doubleheader season, and the cost is super reasonable — about $260 total for a full team (6 guys, 5 girls). That breaks down to roughly $25 per player.

Compare that to HSSC, which charges $565 for a team in their “value league” only if you register during the super early bird window. Their "Super Late" normal leagues are almost $800 for a team. Ridiculous! So yeah — this league is a steal.

No, I don’t work for the city. I just think this league deserves way more attention. Whether you’re putting together a corporate team or just want to play with friends, this is the perfect league.
