Why doesn’t this city have its own “Space Needle”?

I’ve lived in Houston basically my whole life, so I say this with love: downtown has no identity. Where’s our Space Needle? Our Gateway Arch? CN Tower? Cloud Gate? Something that says “Welcome to Houston” in a way the whole world would recognize? Idk just seems kinda like nobody cares about things like that around here and more about fucking parking lots.
