Why do so many people have AirPods in constantly here?

Visiting from the UK, love this place, but why do people have AirPods in all day? Are you on the phone or just listening to music or just ready to take a call? Even your cops are wearing them?

If I wore an AirPod at work, customer facing, my boss would be like what the hell are you doing lol
