Why can’t Dana pull a Billy Beane?

This is a sincere question coming from someone who doesn’t know too much about front office stuff. We all know the scene from Moneyball where Brad Pitt trades Giambi in order to force Art Howe into starting Hatteberg. I’m starting to think this is the only solution to the Martin Maldonado problem; there’s absolutely no reason that he should be starting 5 games a week
