Why are people obsessed with the idea of spending big on RB? My opinion on an ideal offseason

This sub has been flooded with post about why we should get Barkley or Henry and it just genuinely makes ZERO sense. We have TONS of holes heading into the off season and at least 40 mil will go into signing holes created from expiring contracts whether that's resigning or signing new players.

We currently have significant needs at WR, TE, DT, EDGE, LBx2, S, RB, and CBx2.

It is very unlikely we will spend big on more than 1 player and that should absolutely not be RB. We can easily resign Singletary for WAY cheaper than we would sign Barkley or Henry for and he would've been a 1,000yd rusher for us last season if he was a full time starter and that's behind one of the worst blocking oline units in the league. Not to mention everyone is seeming to forget about Pierce who we should 100% be looking to give a second chance as he's still young with tons of potential and signing a guy like Barkley would be giving up on him.

Ideally we need to sign good/great players instead of superstars, this will fill needed holes while not emptying the bank on one player.

This would be my ideal FA and draft scenario for us with our current situation and needs. This will not include depth signings just starters.

Resignings: Schultz, Cashman, Singletary, and King. These resignings would fill our TE, LB1, RB, and slot corner need with good players while leaving us with good money to spend in FA.

Let's see our needs now, WR, DT, EDGE, LB, S, and CB. A much more manageable group of needs.

Now for the FA signings: Bryce Huff, Jaylon Johnson, and Geno Stone. I would love McKinney over Stone at safety but realistically we won't have the money for that after those signings. Bryce Huff replaces Greenard and fills our need at edge. I think we can get him for around the same or less than what we would have to pay Greenard while being younger and better than Greenard. Jaylon Johnson is a stud who would pair amazing with Stingley and would be our big spend. He'll be 25 next season so there's no risk signing him long term. Lastly Geno Stone, our safety situation is really weird right now between Ward being injured all the time and having no clue if Pitre will ever be good again. Stone would give us 3 starting safeties. If Ward is injured we will have Stone and Pitre at safety, if Pitre is ass/injured we would have Ward and Stone. Overall I'm not comfortable at all with having Ward and Pitre as our starting two and Stone would provide that comfort and likely start over Pitre.

Let's see our needs now, WR, DT, and LB. Now the picture is clear for the draft.

Round 1: Byron Murphy or Brian Thomas Jr. I would ecstatic with either but in the event they both don't fall to us I would be fine with Troy Franklin or maybe Johnny Newton. I will say though I'm not the biggest fan of Newton as of now.

Round 2: T'vondre Sweat or Malachi Corley. If we go DT round 1 then we need WR round 2, and vice versa. My favorites for each of the positions at our spot in round 2 are Sweat and Corley. I also would love a possible trade up to draft Cooper if he's still availible in round 2.

Round 3: Best LB available. I'm not very knowledgable about the LB prospects, so I say we go with the best available.

For the other rounds, we should go for depth at DB, WR, LB, and Oline in no particular order.
