Why are mall kiosk workers here so aggressive?

Sorry if this is not the right sub to ask this, but I am visiting houston right now from Canada and I’ve noticed mall kiosk workers get pretty rude with me on two separate occasions.

The first time was at First Colony Mall I walked by the kiosk (granted I was still like 10 feet away from him) the guy was hey try this perfume and I said no thank you and kept walking and he was like wowwww okay then…. while making these dramatic hand gestures.

And I was like okay I get it he’s tryna be sassy and make a sale whatever.

The second time it happened at Galleria. This time I was rushing to meet my family on the other side of the mall and obviously I’m like stressed because I don’t know where they are and I’m new I didn’t have data so I’m sort of not fully paying attention and so I walk by the kiosk and the worker is like hey wanna try this shampoo and I didn’t hear him / or I guess I didn’t think he was talking to me and then he loudly was like HELLOOO I’m talking to you??? And I turned and was like oh uh no thank you and he’s like why? Do you not use shampoo? and then started laughing.

I didn’t respond and went along my way but idk it really caught me off guard. The south is amazing when it comes to customer service so maybe that’s why these two interactions kinda left me confused.

Are kiosk workers being aggressive like an American thing or just Texas thing or maybe it was just a bad day for both of these employees? Is it normal to entertain kiosk workers even when ur not interested in their product? In Canada they don’t even look up at you from the kiosk let alone talk to you!
