Why are Houston drivers so reckless?
I grew up in the Northeast and have been living in Houston for a little over 2 years. Once I moved here I immediately noticed how reckless the drivers are here. The amount of people not using blinkers, running red lights, ignoring stop signs, cutting other drivers off, driving over 100 mph on the highways is genuinely astounding. Can someone who grew up in the area provide some insight? When you learned to drive as a teenager, were you taught to straight up ignore the rules of the road as if you are somehow above them? Or maybe the police don’t enforce the rules as much as they should? Or perhaps people here just don’t care about the well being of others?
I’ve seen reckless drivers in many states, but the amount of them in Houston is on another level. I often feel very unsafe when I’m on the road, like something terrible can happen to me at any moment. I’ve come to really enjoy many aspects of Houston over the past couple of years, but the driving situation is downright inexcusable.
