Why are drivers so bad in Houston?

I've lived all over this great country of ours and a few countries overseas. The driving abilities in this city scare the bejeesus outta me. It's not the speed that worries me, it's the blatant 'don't give a f**k about anyone else but me' mentality that I can see when on the roads. The mindless lane changes. The 'must be first in line' attitude. I've been here for 4 years and I'm still in awe of how bad some of you are. Is driving school not a thing here? What's the dilly'yo?
