Whole house water filter/softener

Hey guys! Some questions about the whole house water filter. Is it worth it? I mainly want the softener since my drinking water is revered osmosis (and I dont need that for the whole house). What is the average cost of installation and maintenance? What company do you guys recommend? Thank youuu!
