Who would the Texans take if we had our 1st round pick?
Speculation around the Texans 3rd overall selection would be the biggest question mark of the entire Draft if we still owned the pick.
After the trade demands and uncertainty of Deshaun Watsons legal troubles/public image would the Texans take a QB in this loaded class? Would we try and add a dynamic weapon like Kyle Pitts or Jamarr Chase to help overcome the Will Fuller departure? Would we try and trade back?
We've been mediocre to bad at Tight End since Owen Daniels left and Kyle Pitts would be a tremendous upgrade (and fantastic fit with Deshaun), so it would be very tempting but QB would put the Texans in a very flexible situation.
Ideally, I'd want us to trade back and get as many early draft picks as possible as this team is almost completely devoid of young talent and our entire defense can be upgraded, but if I had to take a pick here I'd go Kyle Pitts.
I think highly of Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Mac Jones as prospects, but I think there's a good chance Deshaun Watson will only be suspended for the 2021 season and that this will play out in a way where his reputation will recover enough to where he will return in 2022 and be willing to play with us. If he settles and it becomes apparent that the claims were largely exaggerated/false then he's going to want to avoid media spotlight and demanding a trade again would cause a circus.
Add Kyle Pitts and ride this season out with Tyrod and then make moves in 2022 when our cap situation will be really good. If the Texans know the Deshaun situation is really bad then def take a QB (I'd want Justin Fields, but think we'd take Mac Jones bc Easterby), but for now I think we need to continue operating as if Deshaun is part of the teams future.
What do you guys think we'd do?
