Who should the Astros take in the Draft on Sunday?

Thanks to our wild card exit, the Astros have their highest draft pick in nearly a decade at #21. Historically the #21 pick is pretty mid. Not many all stars get selected there. In the last 30 years only one pick taken at #21 has produced double digit Career bWAR. Pitcher Ian Kennedy (06’). Though SS Bruce Turang (18’) is getting close. Technically Jason Varitek was taken at #21, but he was not signed. The Astros have been lucky in this range though, scoring with Oswalt and Biggio at #22 and #23.

With that context, what player or type of player do you want us to take? Most mock drafts expect us to draft A&M Outfielder Jack LaViolette. I personally hate this pick. He’s super high risk imo. He has a lot of power, but really tanked his BA this year at (.258). Though he was much better last year (.318). Prospects with any full season sub 300 BAs in college have a terrible track record in the majors. I think the mock draft experts expect us to take him because of hometown Aggie bias and his profile matches Dana’s recent picks (college power hitters).

What do you think?
