Whitmire says "the solution to pedestrian safety is traffic enforcement"

In a city already with a police shortage, whitmire ignores proven pedestrian safety improvements such as traffic calming, raised crosswalks, etc., and suggests that what we really need is even more traffic enforcement.
Traffic enforcement through police officers simply isn't scalable in a city of Houston's size. We already have a police shortage, sticking even more on intersections is a waste of resources.
Remember that in 2019 Whitmire voted to make red light cameras illegal in Texas. This is valuable infrastructure that holds drivers accountable while taking the work off of the police so they can focus on more important matters. But Whitmire helped make them illegal.
We need to hold the mayor accountable for the statements he makes, especially when they directly conflict with legislation he voted on 5 years ago.
