Feast on steak, tacos, cheese-doused burgers and more from the city’s essential restaurants at home

Houston’s restaurant scene, renown for its variety and diversity, has struggled since the start of the coronavirus pandemic under government-imposed closures and limited occupancy intended to promote social distancing. Still, maybe have found success in the pivot, offering delivery and takeout dishes, cook-at-home meals, even cocktail kits and bulk orders. Which means diners can still experience many of the restaurants on the Eater 38 from the comfort of their own home.

Below, Eater has rounded up those restaurants among the Eater 38 offering takeout, delivery and no-contact curbside service. Not every restaurant on the Eater 38 is represented below. Some, like Hugo Ortega’s Xochi, La Table and Benjy’s, are temporarily closed while riding out the pandemic. Another restaurant, Indigo, depends so much on service and presentation as part of the dining experience that takeout isn’t a realistic representation of its cuisine.

Still, of the Eater 38, 34 restaurants are offering food for enjoyment at home. Due to the quickly changing situation in Texas, it’s a good idea to call ahead or check social media before placing your order.

Note: Many of these restaurants are currently open for dine-in service. At this time, Eater Houston is only recommending takeout, delivery, and curbside pick-up, as indoor dining may pose health and safety risks to both patrons and workers at these establishments. If you do decide to dine-in, wear a mask and tip generously.
