Where to go for the smokiest of smoked meats?

Husband and I are visiting for the weekend. We’d love to go to a smokehouse that is solid and unadulterated (not “elevated” or fancy, unless it’s worth it). He tries his hardest to smoke meat at home and is dying to try a tried and true place. Where do the locals go to get brisket and beer? We have searched Google but want insider info, not a recommendation off a sponsored article.
