The GOOF, as it is affectionately called, is buzzing with new restaurants and bars

Just outside the 610 loop, sandwiched between 290 and North Shepherd, the Garden Oaks and Oak Forest neighborhoods have long been known for spacious lots and ranch-style homes with a relaxed suburbia vibe. But an influx of restaurants, coffee shops, and multi-use developments in the area has led to rapid growth and popularity, leading to its playful moniker, the GOOF, to differentiate it from the bordering Heights and Independence Heights neighborhoods.

The Northwest Houston area is packed with places to eat, drink, and lounge. Whether it’s a wine-fueled dinner at a hidden gem you seek or a quick but satisfying meal on the go, here is where to eat and drink in Garden Oaks and Oak Forest.

This map has been updated to remove Valencia’s Tex-Mex Garage, La Calle Tacos, and Saigon Hustle. The Tamale Joint has been added.
