Where does Houston shine?

So I (m28) just recently moved from Dallas to Houston (The Heights) with my husband (ftm49) and our son (m3) and I’m wondering what does Houston do better than Dallas?

The Heights was hyped up by family from Houston to be a “fun” neighborhood, and I was told Houston was LGBTQIA+ friendly, but that doesn’t seem further from the truth. We took an evening stroll and were yelled at by a homeless man to “go back to California, F*****s” (I’ve never been to Cali) and I am still afraid to walk with our son after daylight. I never experienced homophobia like this in Dallas. And there are only two gay bars within a reasonable distance of our house. WTF?!

So what are Houston’s strong suits? Are there more LGBTQIA+ friendly neighborhoods we should consider moving to? Was I overreacting to the homeless guys comments? Any help would be appreciated kind redditors!
