Where do 30 professionals live in Houston?

My bf and I are moving to Houston soon from farther south. We know nothing about the west side and he’ll be working in the energy corridor. I’d prefer a home with land but I know our budget won’t allow for it quite yet. A lot of the apartments I’ve seen in that area seam to talk about car break ins and stealing your tires. So if y’all have any recommendations for subdivisions or nice apartments for a couple with no kids, that would be appreciated:)
