When did we get so many independent contractors??

To preface: We recently decided to remodel our home. Made a post in one of the FB groups and I, s**t you not, had over 200 responses from people claiming to be contractors and that they could do the work.

Before reaching out we did a little research. I’ll say over half of these “contractors” had little to zero pictures of previous work. Some had websites with obvious stock photos being used.

A quarter of the ones that had pictures, the work looked very DIY. So many had easily findable (not sure if that’s a word but 🤷‍♂️) negative reviews. Multiple negative reviews, not just one.

We called 5 for bids. 2 didn’t bother showing up at the scheduled time. Didn’t ever call or message back neither. 1 was over 3 hours late – with no heads up.

The 2 that did show up, the bids were over $30k difference. And I’m still waiting for them both to send a verifiable certificate of insurance.

It’s gotten to the point that we’re thinking of doing the brunt of the work ourselves. But why should we, when we had over 200 people initially respond?

Am I expecting too much from these independent contractors? Should I lower my expectations??

And why the heck do we have SO many?!?!!!
