What’s up with trucks hauling heavy equipment with open trunks?

Been in Houston for 3 years. Moved from Canada.

One thing I’ve noticed is how much junk (mainly furniture) is dumped on the freeways here. Plus the amount of times stuff has flown off a truck’s open trunk and hit my car is concerning. Luckily it has mainly been light stuff and not caused damage…so far.

How is it legal for these drivers to carry such heavy equipment tied loosely on the back of a trunk? I see this a lot with lawn maintenance trucks as well. Stuff can very easily fly out of the “cart” their truck is attached to.

Am I the only one concerned about this?
