What would a Tucker-Yankees trade look like?
Disclaimer: I am a Yankees fan. I just want an Astros fan's perspective on what a deal might look like.
Going into this exercise I had to make a couple of assumptions, which I believe are all both obvious and reasonable.
-
The Astros are actually willing to trade Kyle Tucker. This has not actually been confirmed yet, just rumors about "listening to offers"

The Astros are willing to trade Tucker to the Yankees. We all know that the Astros and Yankees have had a bit of a rivalry in recent years, even if the rivalry has been very one-sided in favor of you guys. Would they actually be willing to trade Tucker to an AL rival in the Yankees? I have no idea, but this assumption is needed for this little exercise.

The Astros are still trying to compete in 2025 and beyond. Trading away a star like KT in this situation would not be a rebuild, but a retool so the team can remain a contender while also getting value on a guy with 1 year left on his deal and saving some cash so they can…

The Astros use the salary savings from trading Tucker to re-sign Bregman. Pretty straightforward. I'm essentially considering that the salary they would save from trading Tucker would give them the flexibility they need to get Bregman back in the fold, or at the very least make it a lot easier for them to make a deal for a direct replacement like Arenado.
Now that my perspective, as a Yankees fan, on what the Astros would want out of a Tucker trade are laid out, here's my proposal:
Yankees get: OF Kyle Tucker
Astros get: SP Luis Gil, UTIL Oswaldo Cabrera, OF Spencer Jones (Yankees #2 Prospect, MLB ETA: 2026), OF Everson Pereira (Yankees #10 Prospect, MLB ETA: 2023)
The idea here is that the Astros get a young controllable starter with ace upside in Gil (which helps with Framber a FA next year too), a long term KT replacement in Jones, a good super utility player in Oswaldo who could start in RF on opening day (and could be a new Marwin?), and a depth outfielder who could still reach his potential of being an everyday CF in Pereira. I also thought about throwing in another prospect, but I'm not sure how desperate the Astros are for mid-level prospects given that I think you guys are in win-now mode until Altuve retires.
Would love to hear opinions from Astros fans. If you think it's not enough, tell me what else you'd want.
