What was wrong with the “dumbed down offense” that BoB ran Watson’s rookie year?

I know the question may be stupid but as the title says what was wrong with it? We were putting up crazy points then after Watsons rookie year it seems like BoB went back to his “RUN UP THE MIDDLE” offense.
Was the offense too predictable? Ironic, I know
