What to do about dog that won’t leave my property.
I have a stray dog that ever since the big rain this week will absolutely not leave my yard. He was there for 24 house scratching at our door and running into traffic in front of our house. We put up lost and found posters and posted on next door. We took him to a vet, no chip. We took him to Houston SPCA and they aren’t taking animals due to them taking on the California fire dogs. Houston humane and BARC won’t take him because he wasn’t found in Houston city limits. CAP said there is a month waiting list. Animal control won’t take him because he is not actively biting or hurting anyone. Sheriffs office says call animal control. Hell, I even called 911 and they won’t do anything. Of course we’re trying to get someone to adopt him but no one wants a big stray puppy….
I love dogs, I have my own. I was brining my own dog of 5 years home from surgery on Tuesday and the puppy wouldn’t let us get inside without trying to jump on my dog and me so I had to put him in the back yard just to get my dog inside from our driveway. Our back yard has a dog door. I have a less than one year old child and this puppy could pummel her and I’m not sure if he would bite her so we have to keep him leashed up or he will break down the dog door barrier and break inside (has already done it). I have to keep my dog sedated and he’s really nervous about this puppy being here. The puppy will literally not stop barking around the clock and I don’t blame him he chewed through the first leash and now we have to use a super short chain leash we had. I walked him, fed him, and gave him water. My wife has to deal with the baby, our post surgery dog and now this puppy while I am at work all day and it simply can’t be done.
Explained all this to animal control and they refuse to take him. So what do I do? He is in general a good dog, but he’s like a 50lb puppy that we absolutely can not keep him.
Side note… does anyone want a dog. He’s cute and brown and friendly, but he is Big, and needs training.
