What is your go-to outdoor bug repellant?

Just moved to Houston a couple years ago and still getting adjusted to the climate. One thing that’s been annoying me recently is the inability for us to hang out on our patio in the evenings because of the bugs. What’s your go to repellant?

Edit: We also like to eat food outside, but it’s hard when bugs are hovering over the food. I guess I’m looking for a way to keep the bugs off not only myself, but off the food? Do citronella candles work?
