What is the status on Houston construction?

I know Houston is gonna Houston, but especially here recently it feels like there's been a ton of construction seemingly everywhere. It's making it so miserable to get around anywhere. I work at the Starbucks on Shepard and there's been construction there for months. There's construction on 610 in multiple areas. It's a mess and a pain in the ass.

Is it all in service of a better city? I mean I suppose I like seeing progress get done, but I'm not sure the status of scope of it all. I'd love to hear any takes on it.
