What is the actual rule?

So the conversation between TK and Blummer got me looking at the official MLB Rule Book. All I could find is the catch at first is considered a tag, and the ball must be in firm possession of the fielder to be considered valid.

Is there actually a stipulation of back of the glove or breaking plane of the glove?
