What I am watching for with preseason game tonight
With the new coaching staff and their emphasis on teaching it will be important to see if the players can manage the basic offensive and defensive schemes. Green Bay will be a good test for our team and the coaching staff. We are back to basics so this evening I will be watching for the following:
Offense
- Can the OL create a push in the run game or are they getting stood up or even blown backwards?
- Can we gain on avg 3-4 yards per rush?
- Can our WR get separation and catch passes within their radius?
- Can the QBs get the play running (receive snaps, etc.)?
- Avoid presnap penalties (this has been an emphasis so will be interesting to watch).
- Can we avoid less than 10% of our dropbacks as sacks (25 pass attempts should yield less than 2.5 sacks)?
- Can we score TDs in the RedZone (68% is the best in 2020 by none other than Green Bay)?
Defense
- Can our DL get penetration?
- Can the DL give up less than 3.5 yards per carry?
- Can our DL put pressure on the QB without blitzes?
- Can we tackle, avoid broken tackles?
- Do we have more than two players at the ball?
- Can we create any turnovers?
- Can the DBs avoid getting beat deep?
There is a lot to watch for. I will create a summary of what I am looking for after the game. Any glaring omissions?
