What happened to the mosquitoes? (NOT a complaint!)

Now my itch is intellectual curiosity. The mosquitoes seem to have disappeared literally overnight and I can't figure it out. I'm a runner (yes, I ask myself why I do this on a regular basis) and they have been a pestilence since Beryl. Even my dog hasn't wanted to be outside one minute longer than she has to. Last Wednesday, they were so thick that I was getting hit in the face, and I swallowed one. A very nice couple ahead of me heard me gagging / coughing so hard they were compelled to turn back and make sure I was okay. Friday morning, I didn't see a one. At first, I decided it must be a lull during hatching cycles but here we are, a week after my 'incident' and I've only seen a handful since. Does anyone know why? (Again, NOT a complaint!)
