What do you think the Texans do with their remaining $22 million available cap space?
The Texans have $24 million cap space left for the 2024 season and $2 million of that will go to our incoming rookies.
Cutting Robert Woods is an option that’s popular with fans that could save us an additional $5 million and bring our effective cap space up to $27 million.
I think after the draft we supplement the weaker areas of our roster with solid veterans. There’s a lot of solid CBs still available. I think we are waiting to see who we get in the draft to determine whether we sign a bigger contract to someone like Xavien Howard or we move to bring Steven Nelson back on a smaller deal.
Justin Simmons is a hot name still on the market. I’m definitely interested in us getting him but I get the feeling we are going to rock with Ward and Pitre again.
Another move I’d be very happy with would be extending Nico Collins. For one thing, I think he’s going to explode next year and with 2 years of amazing play his price will be sky high. I also think it would be incredibly beneficial for us to sign him before the WR market gets completely reset by Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, JaMarr Chase, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. If we can get Nico around where Devonta Smith signed, that would be a great long term move for us.
