What do y’all think of converting Yuli to a Utility man for 2023?
He can realistically play first (obviously), Left, and in short spurts he can probably handle third perfectly fine.
He could probably get away with playing 2B a few times a year as well.
This would help retain a player with a lot of Baseball knowledge, and also let him get off his feet more.
We may also see a resurgence in rate stats if we reduce his workload a little.
We could still sign a 1B, or opt to give Yainer Diaz / JJ Mattijevic / Hensley (I think he can play first) a shot at it.
Yuli likely would cost about $5MM for a 1 year deal, and I'm not too in love with the idea of Aledmys Diaz being re-signed because he is so inconsistent.
This would also give us kind of a safety net in case any of the young guys struggle too much.
After turning it on in the post season, I'd hate to see us let Yuli walk. But there are also so many other options at first I fell like we may regret committing to him over the other options.
