What do y’all do about dogs chasing you if you’re on a bike?

Recently, got a job that is close enough for me to ride mey bike to. Ice tried it a few times and i enjoy it excpet for the area right near my house.

It's a crumby neighbhood and it seems everyone likes the idea of having a pitbull or other large dog and leaving their gates open. So I've been chased many times. Realizable at least twice each way.

I've called BARC several times, with no change. I've tried talking to one of the owners and i was threatened with violence so I'm not sure I want to do that. Especially since there are ao many houses with this situation.

Is there anything a person could do to protect oneself from these dogs? I'm considering a BB gun but i dont know.
