What do we actually need to do for this "arctic blast"?
Got a house this past year so I didn't have to prepare when the cold storm happened a few years ago.
Watching various news clips and other online sources I'm getting mixed messages.
Some say trickle your faucets and spigots. Have cabinets open** to have hot air circulation. **edit 2: cabinets specifically under faucets/near pipes (not whole kitchen)
Some say turn off your main water at the street and drain all your pipes.
Some say just insulate your outdoor spigots.
I'm considering shutting the water off and draining the pipes but how long would I need to do that for? All of Monday and Tuesday?
What are your plans? What do you think is most reasonable where you're at?
Edit: For context my home was built 2001, brick exterior. The pipes are copper and not insulated in the attic. The spigots are insulated for the 2 inches of pipe they extend from the brick. The spigot handle is uncovered.
