What do TxDPS scheduler appointment names mean?

I’ve been waiting online to schedule an appointment to take my first time drivers license driving test. When I first checked the website at the beginning of June, I was only able to schedule an appointment under the category of “Apply for first time DL/ permit”.

I checked the website again last night, and there was a new category called “Road skills test”. I made an appointment for that too for Class C.

What are the differences between the two categories of appointment? Is the road skills test the right one?
