What do I need to prep for hurricanes

Just moved to Houston and have seen the be prepared for hurricane warnings on the freeway. Anything in particular I should have on hand?

Also side question, do lawns require zero water here all year round? I haven't watered my lawn for 2 months and the grass is still growing like a champ.
