What are the best places to live around Southeast Houston?

I’ll be starting a job in La Porte and would like no more than a 30-40 minute commute. I’m from Beaumont but don’t know the areas around Houston all that well in terms of living standards. I’m (32/M) and single and would like to be close to water if that’s possible.

Just looking for suggestions.
