Welding Classes Recommendations

My son has a free spring semester and wants to take welding classes. We live around 249 / 1960.

He’s looking at LoneStar College but the classes are at 8:00 and he has to check in at his HS at 8:00 so he can’t make the class in time. He’s working on getting an exemption but if that doesn’t work, what are some alternatives?

He’s plans on majoring in Engineering next year and is looking for hands on skills. LSC has a basic certification which he liked. He also took a 1 week class a while back with scouts which he loved.
