Water Softener – Aqua Systems?

Hi all, new homeowner in Katy and looking into water softener / filter options. Came into a company called Aqua Systems referenced in a previous thread here that sells a unit that softeners and filters water at point of entry. Is this a reasonable option or is it much better to go with a standalone unit and hire a plumber to do the work?

They quoted me $2650 all in, which included the water softener/filter unit and installation (water line routing and such) for an install outdoors. Initial thoughts are seems higher than buying a unit from Home Depot or so, but perhaps with some peace of mind for warranty. They did mention the filter inside the water filter does need to be replaced ~5 yrs through them for $300 or so.

Additionally, is it fine to have the installed unit outdoors? Based on our house setup, the water line is on the left side and the garage on the right so would requiring routing to have it in the garage.
