Was anyone around to see the "Richmond Strip"?

I hear a lot from older (than me) folks that talk about an area on Richmond outside of the loop that used to be called the "Richmond Strip" for a strip of bars and nightclubs that used to exist.

These days, this place is more known for strip clubs, so I guess in a way the name is still valid but for a different reason lol. But any more info anyone can provide, and why did it die down?
